Default Costumes

Coming from CoH I'm used to seeing vastly different costumes and unique looking characters..

The only thing which I suspect may disapoint me is that most characters looking pretty much the same.. I hope i can be proved wrong however.

How configurable is your characters looks?.. I notice you can buy dyes to later change your colours.. but what about different har styles and face styles, are there many?.. or are they default depending on your profession?

I love making unqique looking and themed characters, I'm getting GW for its game play style and skill, so i really am not botherd.. but it would be nice to know what to expect

Thanks in advance

and sorry if Ive posted this in the wrong place or its been discussed before.

well I see how I struggled to find that, as Im not posting a complaint about 'customisation' rather, from a newbies perspective, what to expect from 'costumes' in the game I didnt think to search under 'customisation' - sorry to cause anyone greif.

I notice that thread you pointed out was very negative, I would rather not post there, I would like to know about some of the posative things about dress..

Like for example, I LOVE the sound of traveling places to get dyes to change your colour.

As i stated, I dont really care too much about how characters look in this game, thats not my reason for buying it. But I would like to know if anyone has made some funny/cool looking characters with what IS available.

I'd like to think this would be a positive thread.. and it DOES say on the title
"Do not be scared of asking for knowledge, for it is often the only difference between the townspeople and the village idiot. Basic Questions"

Well, I'm not scared, but I'm definatly concerned that a n00b like me cant post a simple question without my head being bitten off

Actually, I think there's a decent amount of "appearance" differences. I don't remember exactly how many "faces" or "hair styles" there were, but I can tell you that when I created my Ranger I cycled through them for about 15 minutes before I finally decided.

Considering this is the core game, I think there's plenty of differences. Some aren't quite as noticable as others, but I really don't recall thinking "wow, they all look the same" or "didn't I just see her...?" while playing beta. Everyone was different in some way or another.

And if you get your head bitten off for posting this then I guess they can bite mine, too.... for contributing to the deliquincy of gamers. :P

Hello Kanashimi,

thanks for that! yea, I expect a certain amount of similarity, even on CoH there are similarities... but on CoH it doesnt matter what type/profession you chose your character can look like anything you want.

Correct me if im wrong but how your character 'can' look depends on the profession?.. I am thinking about a warrior/elementalist or elem/warr build.

not sure which to pick yet but how the character looks may effect that decision

p.s.
Excelent sig btw!.. what is Kanashimi? sounds like a l33t manga character or some other cool thing, seems to be lots of manga fans here, already feel right at home

Yes, a warrior will be big and and casters will look skinny and weak. It helps the PvP aspect of the game in ID'n a character class quickly in battle. Personaly I don't agree with it, but it's what it is atm.

Yup, what ChristopherKee and Zai said is right. In addition, I "believe" there's a significant difference if you choose W/E rather than E/W but you'd have to run a search or ask somebody else to describe it to you, as I suck at these things and am not entirely sure myself. I think it's attribute related but I wouldn't know as I've only played one character class... and I've read so much on these forums that it's all starting to meld together!

But yeah, if you are primary warrior you will be quite large. And an Elementalist is of average build/frame. You're limited to the appearance customizations of your primary class. Personally I find the male Elem. to be more aesthetically appealing, but that's just me.

I do hope for more differences in the future. Like more facial/hair/build options. In real life I'm taller than a lot of guys and I wanted to be that way in game but even maxing out my female character, I'm still pretty dern short. lol.

Glad I could help a little!

Your appearance is indeed dictated by what you choose as your Primary profession (secondary doesn't have any bearing on it, neither do your attributes.)

I haven't played CoH myself, but i've seen the pretty extreme customization options the game has to offer. Guild Wars isn't quite that extreme, but there are certainly a lot of choices for all professions - and I think the biggest thing, for me, that sets them out is how unbelievably good most of the character faces look. There really just isn't anything like it in any other MMO-esque game out there. You might not be able to appreciate the full breadth of it from just the character creation screen - but when you get into cinematics, you'll see the details right down to their eyes.

The other big source of customization comes from your armor, which again, is dictated by your primary profession. There's usually around ~6 sets for each Profession, which look different between males and females. Between mixing and matching, as well as the rather extensive color combinations you can create with dyes, if you put some work into it, chances are, you're not going to see yourself running around in town every 5 minutes.
